CRT MEDICAL RECORD TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE:

This Medical Record Technician Certificate program is designed to gain knowledge in principles and concepts in medical terminology, health information management, database and validation, medical business procedures, and legal requirements including understanding in data retrieval, and data entry supervision, record authenticity, medical records analysis, principles of health care operations, software applications, and basic anatomy and physiology. Upon completion of this program, the student among other items would able to:

  • Discuss how to use the terminology in the layout and structure of the ICD-10-PCS codebook,
  • Explain the structure of an ICD-10-CM code and navigate the layout of the ICD-10-CM coding manual,
  • Describe the medical claim cycle, private indemnity plans, managed care medical plans government medical plans, and explanations of benefits (EOB),
  • Summarize how to file medical claims, determine payments, use health information technology in billing, use diagnostic, and procedure codes,
  • Outline the proper ways to file paper and electronic health care claim forms.

EDUCATION & JOB EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Windows
  • Ability to work with a computer
