HCA MEDICAL BILLING AND CODING:

This Medical Billing and Coding program is designed to provide knowledge in the theory and practice of coding medical services, supplies and equipment using the CPT manual and the technique of locating frequently used terms in the CPT manual and ICD-10-CM coding systems. Upon completion of this program, the student among other items would able to:

  • Discuss how to use the terminology in the layout and structure of the ICD-10-PCS codebook,
  • Define the medical claim cycle, private indemnity plans, managed care medical plans government medical plans, and explanations of benefits (EOB),
  • Describe how to file medical claims, determine payments, use health information technology in billing, use diagnostic, and procedure codes,
  • Outline medical coding, describe the reimbursement process, and summarize diagnosis coding,
  • Discuss current procedural terminology (CPT) and summarize its coding and structure,
  • Summarize documentation procedures and issues with fraud and abuse.

EDUCATION & JOB EXPERIENCE:

  • Ability to use Microsoft Windows
  • Ability to work with a computer
